BABY GAR IV is a faithful replica of Garfield Wood's famous Gentleman's Racers. The original BABY GAR IV was built in 1925 by Gar Wood's then business partner, Chris Smith, who built all of Gar Wood's race boats. BABY GAR IV was one of the last of these. At 33 feet, it mirrored the production of Baby Gars in many ways. The hull was similar but the decks were quite different. Gar Wood favored aft steering controls in his Gold Cup boats. Likewise, BABY GAR IV has aft steering in a large two row seat aft and a large single cockpit forward of the engine compartment. BABY GAR IV was built in 1996. It is the only existing Baby Gar Gentleman's Racer powered by a 1920's Vimalert-Liberty 1650 cubic inch V-12 engine, very similar to what powered the originals. Over $70,000 was spent refurbishing the engine alone.
