1957 Chris craft 19’ Capri, R-19-545
The restoration on this classic started about 15 years ago by the previous owner, after turning the boat over a new west system bottom was installed with a covering of fiberglass cloth, then turning back over the original side planks were carefully removed and the exposed frames repaired as needed, cleaned and skinned (inner layer of marine 4mm plywood covered the sides and topside, from there the side planks were reinstalled using west epoxy and set screws, after the new bungs where installed it was then faired.
At this point the original owner did not want to proceed anymore, so in 2022 I purchased the capri and started the finishing process. I was able to first buy a first class Malibu trailer, it has 2 axles, 4 wheel disc brakes, swing tongue, drag wheels, quality Fulton jack and winch, the next day I went to pick up the boat, although the fit was not exactly correct I was able to safely bring the boat home. Before starting any work on the boat I had the trailer modified with new bunks for a perfect fit for the boat, I later installed retractable hold down straps and new tires.
Then the work started on the boat by planking the topside and making new covering boards using Sapili mahogany expoxing all planks edge to edge.
Then the search for an engine started, I did not want to use an original Hercules engine because I wanted more reliable modern power, I eventually found a 1957 (I think) Corvette 265 that had been rebuilt and marinized to become a flywheel forward arrangement coupled to a manual Paragon transmission.
I had the interior upholstery done in a non conventional style to suit what I felt what be more user friendly but very tasteful.
All components have been replaced with new or rebuilt.
From an appearance point of view the exterior looks stock with the exception of the interior, the sides are fair but not show quality, very nice user quality with all components first class
